TUTOR
I am a highly experienced tutor, who first began one-to-one remote sessions 8 years ago - prior to the increase in popularity as a result of the pandemic.
Creating interactive, personalised learning sessions, I focus on student progress and confidence. Subjects include:
GCSE and iGCSE English Language/English Literature
Key Stage 3 English (11-14 years old)
Key Stage 5 English Language (16- 18 year olds)
Entrance Examinations (14-16 year olds).
ASSESSMENTÂ AND TEAM LEADER
Maintaining subject knowledge is vital, so I mark for multiple examination boards for GCSE, iGCSE and International AS Level.
As Team Leader, I manage a group of examiners and help standardise the English Language GCSE and the AS International Cambridge AS General English Examination.
In summer 2021, I became an Approved Assessor for a private tuition company, providing official examination grades for those affected by the cancellation of the GCSEs due to the pandemic. This work continues today, as I assess the speaking and listening module for private entrants of the English Language GCSE. I am also an Internal Verifier for Pearson Functional Skills.

LEAD EDUCATION AND PARTNERSHIP CONSULTANT
I freelance for The Commonwealth Education Trust, an ed-tech NGO providing online professional development to teachers in under-resourced environment through their digital platform, Teach2030.
I design, develop and deliver via their LMS and/or social media:

live, interactive pedagogy based workshops and post-event materials
blogs
scheme of work on learning poverty
I redesigned and relaunched the Ambassador programme, which now has 20 ambassadors from 15 countries.

I lead our partnerships both nationally and internationally. This begun with reforming our partnership plans, aiming to establish connections with UK/international schools and encourage students to become global citizens.
For a partner, UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organisation), I co-wrote a guide on digital teacher professional development. This has been rolled out across the entire education system of Liberia.

Most recently, I have revised the teaching standards for the Seychelles, writing an implementation plan for school-based teacher professional development that will be cascaded nationally.

In 2017, I also trained the national education division of Heredia, Costa Rica.

TEACHER
Qualified in 2009, I have taught English, Drama and Media in UK and international secondary schools.
I also held several leadership roles (Head of English Language A Level and Deputy Head of GCSE English) within the English department of a state school rated 'Outstanding' by OFSTED.

Alex has gone above and beyond any tutor I’ve experienced. Her knowledge, professionalism, care, compassion and passion for her teaching. Alex is really encouraging and brings out the best possible for her pupil, which is what Alex did with my son Joe. We could see his confidence building as he began to truly grasp the knowledge and way forward in achieving his goal and result!

Alex has been an absolutely excellent tutor to my daughter for GCSEs English Language and English Literature. She gave my daughter structure in her revision and her preparation, great advice and constructive feedback. Just as importantly, Alex gave her loads of confidence and belief in herself and was a calming presence when things got a bit stressful. Alex also took the time to give me weekly feedback on her progress and let me know what they had been working on and what tasks she had set her for the next week.
